“Discover the best seasons to visit Nepal for trekking, sightseeing, wildlife, festivals, and mountain adventures.”
Deep Dive & Field Reports
Autumn is one of the most popular periods for traveling in Nepal. The monsoon has usually cleared the atmosphere, producing excellent visibility of the Himalayan mountains. Temperatures are comfortable in Kathmandu and Pokhara, while trekking routes generally have stable weather. Popular trails such as Everest Base Camp, Annapurna Base Camp, and the Annapurna Circuit become especially busy during this period. Autumn also overlaps with major festivals such as Dashain and Tihar.
Spring is another excellent season for Nepal. The temperatures gradually become warmer and the hills come alive with blooming rhododendrons. Trekking routes around Annapurna, Langtang, and Everest offer beautiful scenery during this period. Spring is also a good time for wildlife experiences in Chitwan and Bardia.
The summer monsoon brings frequent rainfall to much of Nepal. While this can make some trekking routes muddy and less predictable, rain-shadow areas such as Upper Mustang and parts of Dolpo can be particularly interesting during this season. The countryside is also exceptionally green, with rice fields and forests taking on vibrant colors.
Winter brings cold temperatures to the high mountains, but many lower-altitude destinations remain comfortable during the daytime. Kathmandu and Pokhara can be pleasant when the sun is out, while lower-elevation trekking routes can still be enjoyed. Winter is also a quieter period for many tourist destinations.
